Last spring [Spring of 2011], 32 students from seemingly disparate classes—Frontiers of Nanotechnology and Photography II—found themselves together exploring the nanoworld through the College’s scanning electron microscope (SEM). The result was NanoGrande, a collection of intriguing and stunning electron micrographs, exhibited in the Wikoff Gallery.

This was a very unique experience that allowed my black and white film photography skills to be combined with the latest technology in science. The project was founded by Union College and the National Science Foundation.

After taking multiple photographs using the SEM microscope, a few of my collaborative images were displayed in the Wikoff Gallery, and have since been published in Union College President's Report 2010 as well as the cover image for Union College Magazine Fall Issue 2010.
